Hmmm. Very nice, I think I'd have some trouble duplicating that
'mathematical manipulation' :). Sounds to me like it was a bug they
couldn't squash, so the documented it and called it a feature ;)
I guess it's not really important 'what' method is used to create the
short names (since, AFAIK, neither 95 or NT rely's on the method for later
lookups). The important thing is to have a method that works, and the way
NetBSD is right now, after about 80 files with the same short name - the
system freezes... I don't think it matters what we use, as long as it
doesn't freeze the OS <grin>....
