As noted in my other mail, the problem simply isn't that bad.
"gdb --write /netbsd" does what you expect (at least on the i386).
No need for 'set write' or 'target exec' -- those can be specified in
the 'normal' way on the command line.
It probably makes sense to document in the manual page --write and -w
(and the change in meaning), but that's pretty straightforward (and
should be done already, though it isn't 8-).
