my guess is that the prototype declaration in soundcard.h should be
bracketed with __BEGIN_DECLS/__END_DECLS, so c++ does the right thing
with it...  (see /usr/include/pwd.h for an example.)

you might try making that change to your soundcard.h, and see if it
helps.  (if so, please say so.)
