I've just had two mails suggesting the above, but this doesn't work either 
-- it's WRKOBJDIR that I need to be on the NFS partition -- I don't have 
enough local disk space on a SHARK to do the compilations locally (SHARKS 
can only have one IDE disk to the best of my knowledge).
