As far as I can tell all traces of the "interim" edition were eliminated
by the publisher.
I asked DMR about this "mystery" book when he autographed my "second
edition" at a Usenix book signing session held by whomever was hawking
books that time and IRRC he confirmed that it was pulled because it
didn't make sense with the iminent publication of the standard.
I *know* it existed because I held it in my hands, skimmed through it in
the bookstore to confirm that it documented the features current at the
time, and had a significant internal debate with myself as to whether or
not it was worth buying. At the time I couldn't justify spending the
money (esp. when there were so many other books I wanted to buy!) and I
had no idea it would be so temporary or even that there was an ANSI
standardisation effort underway. This "mistake" is one of the biggest
regrets I have related to book buying. I don't remember what bookstore
it was -- it may even have been a bookseller's booth at a computer show.

Hmmm... yes, that's what I'm referring to. The manual I have is the one
that came with my AT&T 3B2 UNIX Version 3.1 and 3.2 manuals (with 3.2.1
updates). I also have the separately published set of 3B2 & VAX UNIX
2.2 manuals and they also include the updated C Language Reference
Manual. By the time SysVr3.2.1 came out there was slow migration of the
C Language to prepare for ANSI-C.
