>Description:
The whole comprises its parts (a decent synonym is contains), rather
than being comprised of them. There are several man pages that
misuse the word (mostly using comprised as a synonym for composed):
hexdump.1
hp300/rmp.4
sparc/openprom.4 (two places)
atalk.4
inet.4
inet6.4
netintro.4
networking.4
ns.4
unix.4
cz.4
rdisc.8
rmt.8
routed.8
And badsect.8 contains a badly worded sentence that uses comprise
in the correct sense.
>How-To-Repeat:
find /usr/share/man/man* -type f -print | xargs grep -i comprised
>Fix:
hexdump.1: s/comprised of/containing/
rmp.4: s/is currently comprised/currently consists/
openprom.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/ [two places]
atalk.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/
inet.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/
inet6.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/
netintro.4: s/is normally comprised of/normally comprises/
networking.4: s/is normally comprised of/normally comprises/
ns.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/
unix.4: s/is comprised of/comprises/
cz.4: s/comprised of/comprising/
rdisc.8: s/is comprised/consists/
rmt.8: s/is comprised of/comprises/
routed.8: s/is comprised/consists/
badsect.8: Change (in the BUGS section):
"sector which comprise a file system fragmant are"
to something like one of:
"sector in a file system fragment is"
"of the sectors in a file system fragment is"
"of the sectors comprising a file system fragment is"
