when i put apm0 in my kernel my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 5000e) panics
with a uvm_fault() just after it probes apm0.
enabling various apm debug options (and a few printf()s
chucked in for good measure) leads me to think it's the
apmcall(APM_POWER_STATUS, regs);
in apm.c::apm_get_powstat() which is triggering the fault.
i've attached the relevant dmesg and kernel config
