X should'nt mask interrupts. The video board can interract with the PCI
bus, though.
Maybe it's also related to disk transfers. Could you try to start a chio
and generate disk activity at the same time ? (a tar cvf or something
like this). If it hangs, could you try to see if you can enter ddb
(ctrl-alt-esc on the first virtual console) ?
