i didn't know what the comment character was for .exrc files so i
tried a few of the more common ones such as: # ! and ;.  they all gave
me a core dump.  i later found out that the comment character was ",
as listed in the man page, but i didn't look there first.

% vi
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
% rm vi.core
