Trying to disable motd display in ftpd will cause ftpd to die without
errors (even with "-d" and ftp.debug being logged via syslog).
>How-To-Repeat:
Insert the following line to /etc/ftpd.conf:
motd none
Connections will be dropped as soon as you login.

You can point motd at a non-existing file.
