the source date in my pr was a little off.  it should have been "May 6
11:28:47 2002 UTC" and not "May 9 11:27:11 2002 UTC".

nevertheless, a cvs update from "May 9 16:41:48 2002 UTC" makes a
kernel that works fine.

i'll go close my pr now.  :)
