System: NetBSD night-porter.duskware.de 1.6G NetBSD 1.6G (PORTER) #0: Sun Sep 1 22:14:34 MEST 2002 martin@night-porter.duskware.de:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/PORTER i386

>Description:
I just installed NetBSD 1.6 on two sparc64 machines. After a few days of
moaning about the ***** disk performance I found out /etc/fstab was missing
the softdep option.
I added it, rebooted, and performance was great.
>How-To-Repeat:
fgrep softdep in sysinst sources
>Fix:
Either softdep should be enabled by default, or the user should be queried
if it is to be enabled. I personally wouldn't bother to ask, but maybe others
like the more conservative aproach (and the option to install without
softdeps).
Enabling softdeps during the installation would probably speed thinks up a
bit too, but that is something completely different.
