   I agree with Thomas here, this PR should be closed.  Opening a PR
is not a proper way of starting a discussion.  A PR should only be
filed, *after* a discussion has taken place and consensus has been
reached (and, needless to say, the PR should then reflect the
outcome of that discussion).
