But event names, by the definition in the man page, are more or less
expected to be the same for the same kind of event on different devices.

I forgot to put my smiley in the first time. Glad you took it the right
way.
Oh, and no, I don't really like running them in 132 column mode. The
characters get kindof tiny. :-)

No. Giving the whole group name, and as much of the event name as can fit
will do rather nicely. A typical example is my dmf32, which have a number
of different interrupts. axintr is the async xmit interrupt, while arintr
is the async rcv interrupt. Give me just the first two letters, and I know
what it is. And we can actually get the first three letters in on 8
columns. So "dmf0 ari" and "dmf0 axi" tells me all I want to
know. Assuming I have two dmf32s, two "axintr" and "arintr" will not be as
usable. :-)
systat only displays interrupt counters anyhow (atleast I hope systat
skips non-interrupt event counters), so that it's an interrupt is already
a safe bet too.

That would be an improvement anyhow, but by looking at the list on a VAX,
it's obvious that it's only half a solution. Truly a cunning plan adopted
by the Black Adder. :-)
