I just had one error like this again and fsck after the panic/crash removed 
/etc and parts of /dev - though nothing has written to it... :-(
Anyway, I made an observersation while the last crashes: The reason seems 
to be the uhci device. I always get these message before it crashes:

host system error
host controller halted
