This a cdda2wav issue and not related to NetBSD or the NetBSD
package. cdda2wav by default writes to a file. This the expected
behaviour.

Notice the "-e" switch as documented in man page says it copies data to
sound card while recording so you hear it simultaneously. This implies
that it saves to file by default.

The man page also says: "To use cdda2wav as a pseudo CD player without
recording in a file you could use cdda2wav -q -e -t2 -d0 -N to play the
whole second track."

If you don't want to write to a file, look at the man page and read about
the "--no-write" option.

NetBSD comes with "cdplay". Maybe use it instead.
