The man page for "wiconfig" refers only to wi(4) and awi(4) devices...
But in fact, "wiconfig ath0 -D" does everything you could hope for!

Unfortunately, not having tested the entire set of functionality, I
can't confirm that you could just tack on "ath(4)" to the list of
devices wiconfig works with.
