Indeed, he proposed a more general answer to this problem.
There are currently a lot of man pages (more than 20) affected
by this bug.  The problem is not in the man pages themselves,
but in the imake utility provided with XFree86.  Fixing the
bug in imake (where the real bug resides) is the only way
to solve this problem.  Beware, XFree86 will probably not apply
this patch in future releases(!).

I fully agree about going with Thomas proposal, it is the most
general fix to this problem and will help when processing new
versions of the man pages.

It would be nice seeing this patch applied as soon as possible,
as current XFree86 man pages make them unusuable (e.g., setting
up xclipboard(1) on a workstation is not possible using the
current man page[*]).

[*] there is a chance of setting up xclipboard(1) reading the man
pages on other machines, like ones running older NetBSD releases,
Solaris, IRIX and so on, or the book "Unix Power Tools" by Jerry
Peek, of course!  :-)
