Rational Rose, running in linux compatibility, hangs on recent
currents.

run "rose", and observe that it freezes up after putting up the
initial work window but before removing its splash screen.

Don't know the fix but have tracked down that the problem was
introduced with this commit:

Prior to this commit rose would work, after the commit it hangs as
described above.
