 The underlying problem was submitted as PR 17245, it was fixed in 
 then-current, and the fix was pulled up to netbsd-1-6. But from what 
 I see the pull-up was incomplete. I'll test my assumption on a 1.6 
 machine over the weekend, and report.
 
 Rui, could you please re-open the PR in the meantime?
