If the drive or the CD is bad, I don't think digital mode will
make a difference. In non-digital mode, the drive decodes that audio
data and sends it directly to the sound card (the sound card is only
acting as a mixer/amp in this case). In digital mode, cdplay reads raw
digital data from the disk and hands it to the sound card for
decoding. In digital mode, cdplay takes an active role in playing the
sound which is why I asked. In non-digital mode, it simply sends the
command and bows out of the picture. However, in either case, the
drive still has to read the data from the disk.
