 This seems reliable (different inode number each time, obviously), after 
 any time the system is reset/crashes when in the middle of removing a 
 backing file from a snapshot.
 
 A reboot (with the "clean" FS) and subsequent fsck in single-user shows 
 the filesystem to NOT be completely clean.  But it doesn't seem wholly 
 corrupted (yet) either...just a few straggling file fragments that end 
 up in lost+found.
