Well... actually, it did the job fine. The real problem was that
nobody apparently looked into it for nearly eight years, so the
circumstances went away.
Anyway, the most likely cause of EINVAL from select (in fact, the only
documented cause) is passing a negative timeout, and that issue has
been fixed.
Shall we close it?
