>Description:
Dear Sir or Madam,
When I try to configure X11 on an Acer Aspire 3634 WLMi laptop, which has a SiS
graphics adapter with 64MB and a native resolution of 1280x800, I only get a
black screen when I choose the module sis. I can choose Vesa, and it will work,
however not perfectly: I get a kind of horizontal "stripes" - where the
resolution is expanded and condensed; it is actually quite hard to read longer
texts with this. In Linux (Ubuntu 6.x, 7.x, 8.04 and Fedora 8) I do not have
this problem. In FreeBSD after 6.2 I had problems, too, but I was told I should
simply install xf86-video-sis-0.9.3_3.tbz, which indeed solved it.
- Apart from that, I neither have sound nor can I burn CDs or DVDs on this
laptop, but this would be still acceptable if at least I could read texts.
>How-To-Repeat:
Try to choose the module sis if you install X11 and have a sis graphics card.
>Fix:
Solution in FreeBSD: install xf86-video-sis-0.9.3_3.tbz.
