   It appears that it does! See wd1, below. The following resulted after
 I commented the "viaide*" line out in the GENERIC kernel
 configuration file and recompiled. The rest of the configuration file is
 original as issued. I might try a fresh amd64 install and update to
 5.0RC2 (amd64) with that now, to see if it works.  ;-)
