Presumably OSS. How can I check it to be sure?
ktrace? What should I look for?

I've tried to play files of this type:

RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 16 bit, stereo 44100 Hz

No sound, though audioplay reports progress when I send SIGINFO to it.
