the reversed entries in the tar ball shouldn't matter.  they're the same as
today and tar should create the symlink correctly, whether the target exists
in the tarball before, or after the symlin, or even if the target isn't even
in the tarball at all.

however, this is a one-off report that was easily resolved and has not been
repeated.  let's just move on...
