 With your patch, I have gotten as follows.
 
 # wpa_supplicant -i iwm0 -c configfile
 iwm0: device timeout
 iwm0: device timeout
 (infinite loop)
 
 "iwm0: fatal firmware error" disappears. However it does not work yet.

 P.S.
 I will test latest NetBSD/amd64-current kernel on my Vaio Pro 11 later.
 It has iwm(4) device inside.
