There's some concern here that, while the patch might well help
in the submitter's situation, other situations might be adversely
affected. In particular, what is the behaviour of the patch on
systems which have _nothing_ connected to the aux port?
FWIW, it appears that linux takes a bit of a different approach
to probing on the aux port. They send the "random" 0x5a value
with a "loop" command, and fallback to using "echo" if the loop
back fails. (At least that's what I understand from discussion
with jmcneill@ on IRC.)
Any volunteeers who can test the effect of the patch on a system
with _nothing_ on the aux port?
