 Ah, thanks. Your fix seems much smarter.
 
 I'm still not very convinced that we should have "2nd edition" awk.
 But it would be a good idea to have this fix in -current for now.
 
 We should upstream this also, but they seem to believe everyone
 uses UTF-8 or ASCII ;)
