The port page at https://wiki.netbsd.org/ports/evbmips/ mentions the erlite3 but doesn't link to instructions for installing NetBSD onto the internal storage (which, if I recall correctly, is umass(4)).  Can it boot an image from an external USB port and run sysinst that way?  Does it require U-Boot incantations?

I have only ever netbooted it with dhcp/tftp/nfs using the manual U-Boot incantations:

dhcp
tftp $loadaddr OCTEON
bootoctlinux $loadaddr root=cnmac0
