 If I change one of my MSI motherboard settings to use CSM instead of UEFI:
 
    Settings -> Advanced -> Windows OS Configuration -> BIOS CSM/UEFI Mode
 
 X and startx both seem to work.
 
 Someone suggested changing some of the boot(8) settings, and when I was
 fiddling around with the "gop" and "efivar" commands, I found that the
 "efivar" command would display about 10 variables (some looked like they
 contained garbage) and then lock up the bootloader/system.  So disabling
 UEFI seemed worth a try.
 
 Feel free to close this PR, unless someone is willing to investigate why
 UEFI doesn't work.
