Some more details, just discovered:

* netbsd10 -2 actually blanks the screen after the nouveau 1.3.1 banner line
  but no further output

* netbsd10 -12 gives a working X. Of course, firefox feeels veeeery sluggish
  with only 1 cpu instead of 8.
