With my DTC card the term to look for is "sector sparing" which will
allocate one sector per track to swap in for a bad sector.  The bummer
is that if there is more than one bad sector on a track then the
controller locks the entire track.  So this mode is only worthwhile if
your disk has relatively few defects.
