Subject: bidirectional serial ports?

I would like to use my serial port for both dial-in and dial-out. I
can set it up for either by tweaking /etc/ttys to include (or not)
gettys on the line or to not provide (or provide) soft carrier, but
this obviously makes switching somewhat of a pain. Apparently the
serial driver for FreeBSD includes capability for a set of devices
(/dev/cua??) that set CLOCAL and can be used for dial-out while the
/dev/tty?? devices don't and can be used for dial-in.
Does the netbsd-1.0 com driver provide any such capability? If so,
how does one invoke it? If not, are there any other drivers that can
be used with the kernel to provide that capability? What other
solutions are available for this problem?
Sorry if this seems like a FAQ, but I cannot find any indication in
MAKEDEV, com.c, man pages, ... . Any help is greatly appreciated.
By the way, 1.0 is a great improvement over 0.9. You guys are to be
commended!
