networking devices have no /dev entries. they have a "different"
interface than other devices.
to see what networking devices exist in your system, try netstat -i
if you're not familiar with BSD-UN*X network administration, i'd
suggest you consider buying a book about it. i think O'Reilly has
one, and i'd assume it's of the same quality as the rest of their
books (i.e. good).
