I recently loaded NetBSD-1.0 onto my 486 running 8meg RAM.
120meg ide drive.
I was having problems with the OS recognizing my 3COM 503 card.
Yesterday, I purchased a Ether16 LAN card (NE2000).
The first time I booted my system, the OS reported the MAC and the
name of the device (ed2) IRQ14, addr 0x300h.
All of the utils that use the card have no problem with it. (eg ping
ifconfig, netstat, nslookup, etc...)
