no, not having "matching swap space" won't cause the system to crash.
on first guess, i'd have to wonder if the memory you added was broken,
in some way. Nothing that i'm aware of, other than bad hardware,
should cause you problems going from 4M to 10M, if the system worked
fine with 4M.
