Swap devices are still useful, yes. It's likely that you'll get slightly
better performance swapping directly to a fast disk, rather than to a file,
goinh through the file system, then to the fast disk.
However, NetBSD can swap to files directly now, without vnd. Are you
not using NetBSD-current?
