Now that I've "rm -Rf /usr/src" and restored it from syssrc.tgz
several times over, and each time been unable to compile, I thought
I'd better check my copy of syssrc.tgz, but cksum and md5 give wildly
erratic results:
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
2174563477 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
4153565937 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
908370064 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
1709801048 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
123999757 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# cksum syssrc.tgz
3506730744 14234946 syssrc.tgz
xdsl014# md5 syssrc.tgz
MD5 (syssrc.tgz) = 52cf4eaf3ae4626ce1da82695b813710
xdsl014# md5 syssrc.tgz
MD5 (syssrc.tgz) = c53f45caf407cf1a4ce35efce647ee31
xdsl014# md5 syssrc.tgz
MD5 (syssrc.tgz) = 18e875a0b71d42f1bd50a8b060946684
xdsl014# md5 syssrc.tgz
MD5 (syssrc.tgz) = a8569ac1269d0406415e9123436babb6
Interestingly enough, cksum appears to come up with stable results for
smaller files:
xdsl014# cksum secr.tgz
2974334067 836858 secr.tgz
xdsl014# cksum secr.tgz
2974334067 836858 secr.tgz
But for larger files the results are totally wacko:
xdsl014# cksum xserver.tgz
2717507579 16645498 xserver.tgz
xdsl014# cksum xserver.tgz
934184658 16645498 xserver.tgz
So, at this point I'm wondering what could possibly explain these
results. I'm open to anything.
Thanks for any help or information.
