Shot in the dark, but when configured for 100MB, are the cards set for
full duplex?  If so, and your running into a hub, that could cause
problems.  I've had a de card (oldstyle Netgear) give me problems with
this - it always wanted to talk full duplex, even on an old 10BT hub.
