I went back and tried the card under 1.4.2, and it works fine. Plugged
into a 10/100 hub, the 1.4.2 kernel found the card, set the mode to be
100MB, and it works great. Thanks to all!
I will prepare a PR for the snapshot SCSI problem I have.
