Yes, this is because your X server is not starting up for some reason
and you redirected its output to a file, thus not showing anything on the
screen.
You should check the file specified (Manuel suggested /tmp/x.log) and
either browse through it for some error messages that give you an idea of
what is going wrong or post the file to this list.

This looks okay at first sight. However, you should check out that your
graphics card is supported by the standard SVGA X server (most modern SVGA
cards are). There is readme file available for each X server describing
which graphics cards it supports.
What's the exact name of yours? In case you don't know you might try
"dmesg | grep vga" or something like this.
