make sure you have the following in your /etc/ttys:

ttyE0   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         vt220   on secure

instead of:

tty00   "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600"   unknown on secure


The former is for 'wscons' and the latter for pccons/pcvt.
