Thanks for the reply, Ren=E9.

I deleted the whole pkgsrc directory, downloaded the latest package 
sources and tried again.  Same thing.

I tried to compile & install esound, but that compile dies on some 
other undefined symbols also. I downloaded the binaries and used 
pkg_add to install them.  Hope this is the right thing to do.

When I installed NetBSD 1.5 I upgraded over NetBSD 1.4.1 using 
sysinst.  A friend suggests that perhaps I need to fdisk the drive 
and start with a fresh install.  Is there some merit in this?
