Check /etc/syslog.conf. /var/log/daemon-debug is not in
the default config, and was probably added by you or some
program. Make sure y ou want that.
For the start, a touch on that file should do.

Either do as the mail directs you and start "vi -r", or if you
just want to get rid of the saved vi buffers, rm /var/tmp/vi.recover/*
