cdplay
plays CDs without soundcard
cdd
plays & rips audio cds, works better for me than cdda2wav
mpg123
crashes rather often with crappy mp3s, but uses very very few cpu
time, plays directly from ftp/http
madplay
plays only local files but doesn't crash that often, uses a little more
cpu time
lame
DON'T use anything else, although it might be rather "lame", best quality
ever
Yes, these are console apps.
