If memory serves, metamail is a MIME handler for mail programs that don't
natively do MIME.  I last looked at it when I wanted to add MIME support
to a minimalist mail system that I wrote a few years ago on the Amiga.  I
think that metamail may be just what Jeffrey wants.

(You might also look at .../pkgsrc/mail/nmh.  nmh may need something like
metamail to do MIME still, but it might still appeal to Jeffrey.)
