Hi,
I'd like to make a test with NetBSD 1.5.2 but I can't
get to the and the installation procedure.
## PROBLE: NetBSD 1.2.5 installation failed.
## WHERE: on a Veridata XtraPro 486s/25 width 8 M
of ram 350 M of HD, three partitions (DRdos 105 Mb)
swap for linux (now of 9 Mb) the other for linux
laptop. The NetBSD Os would be installed instead of
linux (slackware 3.5)
## in advance I didn't make a partition of the HD for
NetBSD, in order to use the linux partitions. I rightly
got all over the partitons to unused, and then setted them
to NetBSD, with their parameters.
## the boot goes on without problems (floppy 1 and 2), the part
of the installation actived by the sysinst arrives to the end
with some allerts (see down), but then when the installation
would really start it gives an error:
status: failed
command: /sbin/newsfs /dev/rwd0a
pres any key to continue
-----
newsfs /dev/rwd0: open: device not configured
## the installation would come from the NetBSD on
the DRdos partition.
## during the installation I noticed that:
a) the physical geometry of the HD and of
bios are lightly different (see down)
b) it says to me that there is an overlapping in the
partitions but i can't see it on the screen
c) it creates an empty partition n 3 unused
d) it says to me that BSD partition is located beyond
the 1024 cilinder (but because of the HD is smaller
than 520 MB, and there is the boot manager, i think
in doesn't matter, am i wrong?)
e) when I reeboot my pc, the boot manager appears correctly
installed, but clearly the f2 option for the BSD stops
the machine
This is my fdisk output:
----
wd0: no disk label
NetBSD disklabel disk geometry:
cylinders: 682 headers: 16 sectors/track: 63 (1008
sectors/cylinder)
BIOS disk geometry:
cylinders: 681 headers: 16 sectors/track: 63 (1008
sectors/cylinder)
Partition table:

start 63, size 215649 (105 MB), flag 0x80
beg: cylinder 0, head 1, sector 1
end: cylinder 213, head 15, sector 63
1: sysid 169 (NetBSD)
start 217728, size 19152 (9 MB), flag 0x0
beg: cylinder 216, head 0, sector 1
end: cylinder 234, head 15, sector 63
2: sysid 169 (NetBSD)
start 237888, size 448560 (219 MB), flag 0x0
beg: cylinder 236, head 0, sector 1
end: cylinder 680, head 15, sector 63
3: <UNUSED>
Thanks in advance, and please write simply.
