./configure is saying "run configure in the current directory."
So if you you're doing this and you're not in a directory with a =
"configure" command. It will not work.
Usually ./configure is only needed when you are installing from source =
and if you installed all of the packages, then you shouldn't have to do =
this.

Subject: newbie can't "./configure"
Is the command "./configure" a basic one in UNIX or do I need to=20
install software to be able to do this?
I'm following the directions to install and configure PHP into=20
Apache. But when I type "./configure" the response is "command not=20
found." I've installed all the necessary packages for Apache and PHP.
Here's the directions I'm following:=20
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache.php
I'm running NetBSD 1.5
Thanks in advance for help.
